The Beach House Studio

The Brief

This studio was to provide the guests visiting a client’s waterfront home with additional living and overflow space. Located above a garage, the open-plan room incorporated a separate bathroom and kitchenette. The clients wanted both seating and sleeping areas, as well as a table where guests could eat breakfast and read the papers

The Challenge

Open plan areas throw up a multitude of challenges, particularly when trying to accommodate conflicting requirements. Trying to fit everything in without making it feel cramped or contrived was crucial.

The Solution

Where to site the bed was the key to solving the puzzle. Once this was identified, we designed a bed with storage beneath to solve the issue of having no closets in the room. Placing a fold-out sofa (for visiting families) at the end of the bed marked the transition into a seating area with a coffee table and television. A sideboard was sourced for storage and a high-top table with four chairs was chosen to provide a space for a morning coffee. The end result was a bright, energetic scheme with pops of colour which welcomed guests to their home away from home.
