The Brief

This project began with a client’s desire to change the fireplace in a snug. The brief quickly expanded with the snug becoming a new room where the family could relax with Sunday papers, watch TV, and play video games – a contemporary, elegant space to relax on a winter’s evening in front of the fire. 

The Challenge

Storage – and space itself – was at a premium. Structural alterations to the fireplace required specialist technicians. Careful consideration needed to be given to the audio-visual requirements to ensure the highest quality. The chairs and sofa also required significant reupholstering. 

The Solution

A soft blue colour scheme was chosen for the soft furnishings, paired with a palette from Farrow and Ball for the walls and bespoke wall unit. A plush ombre rug was chosen to coordinate with the newly reupholstered sofa and chairs, and additional seating was provided by cubes tucked under bespoke walnut tables. To address the storage issues, a bespoke TV/storage unit also was designed to work around the existing radiator and doorway. A few key lighting pieces added warmth and illumination to this restful, welcoming room.
